A House of Pomegranates is a book of fairy tales by Oscar Wilde. The book contains two stories, “The Young King” and “The Birthday of the Infanta.”
“The Young King” tells the story of a young man who is crowned king and must choose between a life of earthly pleasure and a life of spiritual purity.
“The Birthday of the Infanta” is the story of a young princess whose birthday party is attended by a dwarf, who is treated cruelly by the other guests.
Wilde’s fairy tales are moralistic in nature, and both stories end with the protagonists realizing the error of their ways.
“The Young King” ends with the king choosing spiritual purity, while “The Birthday of the Infanta” ends with the princess recognizing the dwarf’s inner beauty.
